In 2015, Facility Systems was fortunate to be selected by Dunn Project Solutions group of JE Dunn Construction Company to install demountable glass partitions throughout the new office of Littler, a global law firm that recently opened an office in Kansas City, Missouri. This was the second project we partnered with JE Dunn on the install of demountable partitions in a new commercial office space.

This project had a lot of challenges. There was an incredibly tight schedule, no contractor parking and the logistics of getting deliveries in the space was challenging. We teamed with John A. Marshall Company to provide the installation on the demountable walls, as they have a large group of talented carpenters on staff. The architect was Gensler, and CBRE provided project management services.

If you’ve never heard the word “demountable” associated with glass walls or partitions, you’re not the only one. The reason they are called “demountable” is you can take them down and relocate the walls after the initial installation. These walls are actually considered furniture by the IRS, so they depreciate differently than permanent construction. They depreciate over seven years, like furniture vs. 39 years for typical construction. Here are the other added benefits of demountable walls:

  1. Demountable wall partition systems can be installed much faster than traditional stud wall partitioning.
  2. Demountable walls are highly flexible, offering the ability to reconfigure, rearrange or even expand your space quickly and efficiently.
  3. Demountable partitions can be installed, removed or extended quickly, meaning less disruption to your business and staff.

We installed two styles of demountable wall systems at Littler. Both are manufactured by Muraflex; they are called Mimo and Expo.

  1. Mimo – This wall solution is very versatile and flexible. It’s made from recycled aluminum and is available in several colors, finishes and configurations. The system is very user friendly and easy to install.
  2. Expo – This telescoping door system allows you to create open spaces or private rooms in a matter of seconds. The glass panels slide behind each other as you open or close the door system, maintaining a very sophisticated look at all times.

Littler was successfully completed in the summer of 2015. Their space looks great, and we’re happy to have been a part of the project.

We highly recommended Muraflex and their demountable wall systems. For more information, please contact us at 913-341-1529.
