For the last 13 years, Katie Manso has lent her interior design expertise to a variety of FSI projects. A valued member of our team, she has decided to stay home with her three, lovely kids.
“Katie has been an integral part of our team for over a decade. When she started working for FSI in 2008, I was impressed by her ability to meet project deadlines, while maintaining an upbeat and positive attitude. As I consider her career at FSI, I am amazed at the impact she’s had on our clients and co-workers,” said Scott Elder.
To celebrate her career with us, we interviewed the K-State alum about what she’s learned over the years. Find her responses below.
Katie, what have you learned over the course of your career?
I’ve learned to be flexible, have an open mind and be open to new ideas. I’ve learned the importance of good communication with clients to make sure everyone’s needs are met and that things run smoothly. And, I’ve also learned that being detail oriented is key to a successful end result.
Have your clients’ needs changed over the years? If so, in which ways?
Absolutely! With our world and design trends always changing, our clients’ needs and wants are constantly evolving. For example, we’ve seen a huge shift towards more collaborative and flexible workspaces versus the tall/private stations that were popular when I started at FSI. There has also been so much change in technology over the years. We can provide our clients with better visual resources of the spaces we are creating, which is something that is often requested.
What have you enjoyed most about working at FSI?
I’ve most enjoyed the people I get to work with. After being here for 13 years, I’m definitely going to miss seeing my work family every week! We have such a fun group of people and everyone gets along so well.
What are some of your favorite moments at FSI?
It’s hard to choose, but I would say some of the moments I’ll always remember are attending the Royal’s Opening Day games. It was always fun to hang out with and get to know our clients outside of the workplace. Our FSI Christmas parties are also some of my favorite memories. You know you are working with great people when you look forward to hanging out with them even outside of work!
What advice would you give an interior designer who is beginning his or her career?
I would say to be flexible and open minded. Make sure you are effectively communicating with your clients to ensure that their needs are met. Be a team player!
